The fine print
But Cardmarket says buying is free? But TCGplayer has no buyer fee?
Cardmarket's fee page says “Buying = No fees.” That only covers the marketplace commission. The moment you pay by card, as most buyers do, Cardmarket adds 5% + €0.35 under a feature called “Instant Credit”. It isn't a wallet top-up: it's a payment surcharge with a misleading name.
On top of that, most orders carry a 1% Trustee Service fee. A standard card purchase on Cardmarket costs the buyer 6% + €0.35 in fees, before the seller's 5% commission is even counted.
On CardNexus, card payment is included
No payment surcharge: payment processing and buyer protection are part of the buyer fee, 2.5% + €0.30 right now. What you see at checkout is what you pay.
TCGplayer charges sellers a 10.75% marketplace commission plus 2.5% + $0.30 in transaction fees on every order: 13.25% + $0.30 in total. When sellers lose that much of every sale, they raise their prices to make up for it. Buyers don't see a fee line, but they pay it in every card price.
Pro sellers add a 2.5% Pro fee on top. The “no buyer fee” model shifts the cost onto sellers, who pass it back to buyers through higher prices.
On CardNexus, lower seller fees mean lower prices
Sellers pay 8% in North America and 5% in Europe, well under TCGplayer's 13.25% + $0.30. They keep more of each sale and can list for less. Coupons don't cost sellers anything either: CardNexus pays the discount, so the seller gets the full payout.

FAQ
Questions about CardNexus fees
What you pay, and why.
Paying by card, yes, in both regions. If you pre-fund a Cardmarket wallet by bank transfer, its card fee disappears and the totals get close. Our seller fee also counts shipping, where Cardmarket's counts items only.
Cards through Stripe, or your CardNexus seller balance. Paying by card costs nothing extra: it's part of the buyer fee.
Our North American seller fee is 8%, against 5% in Europe. It reflects higher payment processing costs and sales-tax compliance in North America.
No. The buyer fee and the seller fee are the only mandatory fees. The one optional extra is CardNexus Shield, shipping insurance a seller can add when shipping an order; its price is shown before they add it.
An order is the whole package: cards, shipping and tracking. Charging on the full amount stops a seller from listing a card at €0.01 with €50 shipping to avoid the fee. TCGplayer calculates its seller fee the same way.
Splitting costs between buyers and sellers keeps the seller fee low, so cards can be listed for less. The buyer fee is shown at checkout before you pay, and promotions sometimes waive it.
