FAQ

  • Magic cards here carry one of five rarity labels: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Mythic and Special. The first four form a ladder from the most frequent card in a pack to the scarcest, and the colour of the set symbol on the card tells you which step it sits on. A Mythic is not automatically stronger than a Common: the label measures scarcity, not power.

Each printing has its own rarity, so a card from Limited Edition Alpha and a later reprint of it are not always on the same step.

  • The finish is the surface of the card, and each one is listed as a separate item with its own offers.

    • Standard: the plain printing, no shine.
    • Foil: a reflective layer that shimmers when you tilt the card.
    • Etched: a foil with a more muted, metallic look.
    • Signed: a copy signed by the artist, sold apart from unsigned copies.

Pick the finish before you compare prices. Packs built around special treatments are on the Magic collector boosters page.

  • Magic cards are listed in English, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, German, French, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Korean. Not every printing was made in every language.

Some printings also exist in Phyrexian. Language is part of each offer, just like the finish, so a French copy and an English copy are sold separately. To look for a card of one release, start from its set page, for example Commander Masters.

  • Each set has its own page listing its cards, which is quicker than searching card by card. Magic sets on CardNexus go back to Limited Edition Alpha, Beta and Unlimited Edition from 1993, and reaches recent sets such as Secrets of Strixhaven and Reality Fracture.

A set page shows the cards of that set only, with their rarity and finish. If you would rather open packs of that set, see the Magic booster packs.

  • Supplemental printings have their own set pages, apart from the main sets. The List, started in 2020, groups reprinted cards, and Secret Lair Drop, from 2019, holds the cards of Secret Lair releases. Licensed sets such as Doctor Who, Fallout or Marvel Super Heroes also have their own pages.

A reprint is a separate card on the site, so a copy from The List and the original printing have different offers. Sealed drops are on the Secret Lair page.
