FAQ
A gift set is a gift box that combines cards, booster packs or accessories. On this page the lines are Gift Boxes, such as the Kaladesh and Shadows over Innistrad Gift Boxes, Holiday Gift Boxes for Return to Ravnica, Theros and Khans of Tarkir, and Gift Packs like the 2017 Gift Pack. Each one has its own contents, listed on the product page.
Gift sets here run from 1997, with the Multiverse and Vanguard Gift Boxes, through the Time Spiral Gift Box of 2006, to the Holiday Gift Boxes of 2012 to 2014 and the Gift Packs of 2017 and 2018. The Battle for Zendikar Gift Box dates from 2015, and those of Kaladesh and Shadows over Innistrad from 2016.
Check the language and the list of contents. Gift Boxes such as the Battle for Zendikar one are listed in many languages, from English and French to Korean, Russian and Chinese, while the 2017 Gift Pack is English only. Then the box itself: a gift set is often bought to give, so look for intact wrapping and clean corners, and ask for photos of an older box like Time Spiral.
A gift set like the Kaladesh Gift Box is built as a present. A Magic box set brings several products together around a set or a theme, and a Magic bundle holds a handful of booster packs with accessories. For someone new to the game, a starter deck teaches the rules with a deck ready to play.
