FAQ
A prerelease kit is the product used at prerelease events: booster packs of the new set and a promo card. Here they are mostly named Prerelease Pack, like the The Hobbit Prerelease Pack or the Final Fantasy Prerelease Pack. Some sets have several kits: Avatar: The Last Airbender has one each for Aang, Katara, Toph, Zuko and Azula, and Tarkir: Dragonstorm has kits such as Mardu.
The exact contents depend on the set; the product page lists them.
Prerelease kits are listed from Return to Ravnica in 2012, with one kit per guild such as Azorius or Golgari, through Dominaria, Rivals of Ixalan and Guilds of Ravnica in 2018, to 2026 sets such as Secrets of Strixhaven, whose kits are named Lorehold, Silverquill, Prismari, Quandrix and Witherbloom.
Older kits are still sold sealed by collectors long after the event.
Check the set, then the kit name when a set has several: the Secrets of Strixhaven Prerelease Witherbloom is not the Prismari one. Then the language: recent kits such as Edge of Eternities are listed in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Japanese, older ones like Core Set 2019 add Korean, Russian, Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese, and the Star Trek kit is English only.
An opened kit may be missing its packs or its promo card, so buy it sealed.
A kit gathers packs and a promo card for one player at the event. If you only want the packs, single Magic booster packs of the same set are simpler. Stores and groups who want several kits of one set, such as Bloomburrow or Duskmourn: House of Horror, can buy them in their factory carton on the prerelease cases page.
