FAQ
Promo packs are handed out at events or with other products, and several kinds sit on this page. Recent sets have a Promo Pack and a Foil Promo Pack, as with Tarkir: Dragonstorm. Collector Booster Sample Packs exist for sets such as Bloomburrow and Aetherdrift, and Welcome Boosters for Streets of New Capenna, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty and Innistrad: Crimson Vow. The older entries are Demo Game Boosters from Portal and Starter 1999.
The range starts in 1997 with the Portal Demo Game Booster and the Visions Preview Printing Booster Pack, followed by Portal Second Age, Starter 1999 and Starter 2000. Recent promo packs cover Duskmourn: House of Horror, Edge of Eternities and Secrets of Strixhaven, which also has a Japanese Fujichoco x Wandering Emperor Promo Pack.
The promo cards themselves are sold one by one on set pages such as Secrets of Strixhaven Promos.
Read the full name: a Promo Pack, a Foil Promo Pack and a Collector Booster Sample Pack of the same set, such as Edge of Eternities, are three different products. Then the language: recent promo packs are listed in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Japanese, while the Final Fantasy Limited Promo Pack is the Japanese one.
Promo packs are often thin wrappers, so look closely at the seal for tears or signs of resealing.
A Magic booster pack is the standard pack sold for a set. A promo pack comes from an event or a promotion, like the Innistrad: Crimson Vow Welcome Booster, so its contents follow that promotion rather than the usual pack. If you want one promo card rather than a sealed pack, look it up on the Magic cards page.
