FAQ
A theme deck is a complete, ready-to-play deck built around one idea. The name of the line has changed over the years: Theme Deck for Tempest in 1997, with decks like The Slivers or Deep Freeze; Intro Pack for Zendikar and Worldwake; Planeswalker Deck for sets such as War of the Spark; and 60-Card Theme Deck for Secrets of Strixhaven and Lorwyn Eclipsed in 2026.
The exact contents vary by deck, so read the product page for its list.
Theme decks are listed for sets from Tempest and Stronghold, in 1997 and 1998, to Secrets of Strixhaven, whose decks are named Lifegain and Eerie. Between the two you will find the Planeswalker Decks of Core Set 2021 (Liliana, Basri, Garruk, Teferi, Chandra) and of Throne of Eldraine (Rowan, Oko).
A set usually has several decks with different themes, so the deck name matters as much as the set.
Most theme decks can be listed in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Japanese, and many older ones also in Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Korean and Chinese. The Planeswalker Decks of Core Set 2020, for example, exist in all of these.
Before buying, match three things on the box: the set, the deck name (Ajani is not Vivien) and the language. A sealed deck keeps its wrap; a deck sold opened may be missing cards.
A theme deck, such as the 60-Card Theme Decks of Lorwyn Eclipsed, is a standard deck for one-on-one games. A Commander deck is built for the multiplayer Commander format around a legendary creature. The precon decks page covers other ready-made lines such as Challenger Decks and Duel Decks.
All three come ready to play; the difference is the format you want to play.
